A willingness to learn.\u00a0\u00a0Our\u00a0educational seminars and support programs will keep you current.<br \/>\n2. Financially ready. We estimate that the first 5 years of ownership will cost you between $5,000 and $10,000.<br \/>\n3. A fenced yard or dog run. A good fence will keep your dog in and the\u00a0coyotes and thieves out<br \/>\n4. \u00a0An interest in working with your Toller.\u00a0Smart dogs like these\u00a0need\u00a0to be busy.<br \/>\n5. An active and ongoing relationship with us. Their little brains are growing too!<\/h2>\n<p>Their eyes, ears and skin are feeding the brain a barrage of information on things they have ever seen, heard or felt before.<br \/>\nIn the process, they are learning about their world. They are learning that humans are good, food is good and even the family cat can be pretty good!<br \/>\nThey are also developing their emotions. They are learning to be happy, to be sad and to be afraid.<br \/>\nUnfortunately, their entire body doesn&#8217;t grow in a linear fashion. During those first 10 weeks, they enter a developmental &#8220;fear period&#8221; where their brains tell them that world is a very, very scary place.<br \/>\nOne of these fear periods happens between week 7 and week 9.<br \/>\nWe don&#8217;t know when a puppy will go through it or how bad it will be, but we do know that the puppy will wake up one morning inexplicably terrified. This fear period lasts approximately 5 days and we manage this time carefully. Complete the Questionnaire \u00a0completely\u00a0and return it. This\u00a0questionnaire is\u00a0our first impression of you\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0gives\u00a0us the details we need to match a puppy.<\/p>\n<p>3. We will\u00a0book you for a conference call. We want to know you better and gather more information.\u00a0Have your Questionnaire with you\u00a0so we can go over it.<\/p>\n<p>4. We will take a couple of days\u00a0to review what you have given\u00a0us and determine whether we\u00a0have a suitable\u00a0puppy to offer you<\/p>\n<p>5. For families that live locally,\u00a0we may ask\u00a0you out for a visit. \u00a0Regardless of the distance, all applicants are welcome to visit us.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the large number of inquires we get, the application process can sometimes take several weeks to complete. What surprises most people is that the average Toller costs $1.00 a day to feed, make this diet cheaper than most grocery store kibbles!<br \/>\nWe do not expect our owners to feed raw, but we hope they will. There is also ongoing training and competitions.<\/p>\n<p>To say that our life revolves around them\u00a0is not an understatement.<\/p>\n<p>Before doing a breeding, we run\u00a0every health and genetic test available on the parents to be\u00a0and limit the number of times a dam is bred.<br \/>\nWe pay strict attention to their dietary and exercise requirements before and after conception. It also keeps wildlife out.<br \/>\nWith our experience in Veterinary Emergency Clinics, we have seen the trauma a coyote can cause..often.<br \/>\nIn rural areas where fencing isn&#8217;t as common, coyote attacks are the second most common cause of death for dogs in emergency.<br \/>\nDogs even twice the size of Tollers are still not strong enough to survive a coyote attack.<\/p>\n<p>We trust our owners completely.
