We’ve Updated our Website!

At Red Shadow Kennels, we feel it is really important  to keep our owners up to date on things that impact the health and wellbeing of their Tollers.

We are therefore very proud to announce the addition of our new “Owners Only” Library.

The Red Shadow Library is host to all of our researched White Papers on topics like Toller health, anatomy, vaccination protocols and auto-immune disease as well as documentation on training and links to pet friendly activities.

New material will be added to the Library monthly and existing articles will be updated as necessary.

If you are currently one of our puppy owners, you will have received your login credentials giving you instant access to these new resources.  If you have not yet received our email or would like more information on how to get access to our Library, please contact us via email or message us on our Facebook page.

Who doesn’t like free stuff?

Here at Red Shadow, we have a special love for dog training. Whether it’s something serious like hunt or more laid back like tricks, there is something magical about watching our tollers work.

One of the many perks of buying a Red Shadow puppy are the free training workshops. Every few months we host an open house where people are free come work with their dogs. We love helping our owners with everything from developing good manners to entering their dogs in competition.

We hosted one of our training sessions today in Oshawa and had the pleasure of seeing some of our puppies from our 2016 Circle of Life litter. We think you will agree, these are well-behaved puppies!

Sssssh! Be Very, Very Quiet..

If things seem to be quiet here at Red Shadow, it is because there is planning in the works!
We have been busy these last few weeks ironing out the fine details of our next litter and shifting our focus from Conformation to Performance.

Are you asking yourself, what is performance? Well, performance is training…..and lots of it.
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is an incredibly versatile dog. In addition to the Tolling it was bred for, Tollers love hunting!
But that’s not all!
Tollers excel at other fun stuff too! They love Agility, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Scent Detection, Barn Hunt, Trick, Free Style Frisbee, Dock Diving and Fly-ball.
They also have careers in Border Security, Avalanche Detection and as Therapy Dogs for Seniors, Autism, PTSD and Grief support (funeral homes).

In this coldest time of the year, we plan out and start our training programs. From the youngest to our seniors, we are always looking for new and interesting ways to show off the smarts of these little red duck dogs.
On February 4th and 5th, Hadley (Ch. Redshadow’s Tuff Act To Follow) will be in competition for her Companion Dog (CD) Title at the Ancaster Fair Grounds, Concession Building, 630 Trinity Road, Jerseyville, Ontario. As always, if you are in the neighbourhood, we would love to meet you!
We are also working with Verin to get his Junior Hunter and Working Certificates this year! We don’t have a date for these competitions yet because we will need a bit more time and space to do our training, but as soon as we are ready, we will be announcing that as well.

So, as a part of your own New Year’s Resolution, what awesome plans have you made for you and your dog??

Best Year End Ever!!

We made the drive to the Bingeman Convention Center in Kitchener yesterday to attend 2 dog shows with our girl Hadley (BBPIG Ch. Redshadow’s Tuff Act to Follow RA)!!

In the first show, hosted by the Elora Kennel Club, Hadley took Select! It was a great warmup and she was in with a lovely group of Tollers.

We were really excited and nervous about the second show. This was the Southwestern Ontario All Retriever Specialty Show!! We entered this one specifically because they do such a great job and have such lovely ribbons for the competitors. A higher number of dogs usually enter as well because it is one of the last big shows of the year!

Well, our Hadley took Best of Opposite while GChEx Roaneden’s Pond Star  (Chumlee) took Best of Breed. We wouldn’t have be happier!! Not only was this the most prestigious of Hadley’s wins so far, but Chumlee is also the sire of our 2016 Circle of Life Litter.

Hadley is just over 18 months and is  maturing beautifully. She is wicked smart, has an unbelievable temperment and truly carries the Spirit of her Mom and Dad (Quivari x Riley). I am beyond words at how grateful I am to have this special girl in my life.
Our sincerest thanks to Judge Ms. G. Taylor for amazing honour.

Pending health clearances and completion of her Grand Champion title, Hadley will be joining our breeding program in January of 2018!!

Last Call!

Red Shadow Kennels will be squeezing in one last Conformation show for the year!

You are all invited to watch our beloved Hadley (Ch. Redshadow’s Tuff Act To Follow RA) continue on her quest to Grand Champion!

She will be entering the ring tomorrow at 12:30 and 2 pm for the Elora Gorge Kennel Club year end show at the Bingemans Convention Center, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

All are welcome to attend!
